Hans Gamma (left)
In 1953, on a road trip through the USA with his new bride, Hans first encountered the beauty in rocks, resulting in the purchase of his first cutting and polishing machine. After living a few years in San Francisco, Hans, his wife Esther and first born daughter moved to Switzerland, where he ran the family newspaper and printing business for thirty years. While living there, he frequently traveled to the USA, hunting for rocks and exploring new sites for jaspers, mainly in the Northwest. Each trip contributed more beautiful rocks to his growing collection. Upon retiring in 1985, Hans and Esther settled in Arizona, where he continues to devote his life to the world of Jaspers. |
Lauritz “Larry” A. Jensen (right)
Although not a trained geologist or mineralogist, Larry has a true passion for collecting jaspers, especially scenic jaspers. His primary profession is the teaching of microbiology to medical and veterinary students who attend Midwestern University. He has an earned doctorate with post baccalaureate degrees from Brigham Young University and the University of Northern Colorado. Current interests include the genesis and microcrystalline structure of the Owyhee Picture Jaspers, and he eagerly explores the high deserts in western states for rocks and minerals. He is an active participant in several lapidary and rockhound clubs in the Phoenix metropolitan area. |
